Now that I am a much bigger girl, I’m still creating books and oh, the joys of cutting and pasting on a computer. It’s all so much easier with a clever little flick and a click of a mouse…
I was born in Guildford, Surrey and went to a convent boarding school (yes, really!) I worked in Paris as an au pair – an interesting experience to say the least but I did learn to speak French. On my return from France I lived and worked in London and am now settled in Chiswick, with my partner Martin, a designer who creates outstanding book covers and helps me with editing my books.
We live with our two children, Polly, who is a lot tidier and more sensible than me and Jake who runs out the house every time I get stuck on the computer!
Martin is a Geordie and likes beer while I like wine, which is very annoying as I usually end up drinking the whole bottle.
We both like to travel and might well take off in a camper van. Either that or retire on a houseboat …
One of my earliest memories is making mini books as a little girl. I used to spend hours trying to stick the pages together with Sellotape. Then I found the stapler and promptly stapled my finger so the stapler was banned. From there I graduated to my Dad’s old-fashioned typewriter.
I was always in trouble for leaving the lid off the Tippex and pinching his office paper.
Witterings Beach
Things that Clare likes:
Walking along the Witterings Beach, near Chichester in West Sussex.
Apart from blowing away those London cobwebs, its a great place to empty your mind and dream up more ideas for stories.
A good rummage around a car boot sale with lunch at a local pub, is my ideal Sunday.
Chili chocolate, a nice bottle of red wine, getting stuck into a good series on the telly and spending time with our
London and Geordie families and friends.
